I have a strong anti-vandalism record with over 700 mainspace edits, most of which is anti-vandalism, and have helped out in some cases where sockpuppetry was suspected (such as the “Heaven gained another angel” incident). Having this right would help me detect same-IP sockpuppetry so offending users can be reported to AIV or SPI as a sock. I agree not to misuse this right in any way. Page to request the temporary account IP viewer rights

Temporary account IP viewer

I’d like this right so I can identify vandals faster when I’m RC patrolling. Thanks in advance. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 20:23, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ahecht: did you change your mind here? MusikBot is correct that the perm was not granted 🙂 HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:18, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@HouseBlaster: Looks like I checked the edit tenure of the wrong editor (or read 2025 as 2024) when granting, as this user doesn’t have six months, and User:MusikAnimal/userRightsManager.js apparently posts the done message whether or not assigning the rights succeeds or fails. Ahecht (TALK

Sounds good. I disabled the {{done}} to avoid confusing the bot. @Monkeysmashingkeyboards: unfortunately, the six month minimum is a hard, WMF-imposed requirement and we are not permitted to make exceptions. Please feel free to reapply once you meet that time threshold; this is absolutely not personal 🙂 HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 15:18, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have been reverting many instances of vandalism while logged out, and I would need this right so that I can revert vandalism a bit better. shane (talk to me if you want!) 12:53, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you’re logged out, how will this right be useful to you when you can’t access it? Tenshi! (Talk page) 12:57, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Applying the principle of charity, I suspect the user meant that they often revert “instances of vandalism [where the vandal was editing] while logged out”. Mz7 (talk) 16:45, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I’m aware. — asilvering (talk) 15:55, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

After finally getting around to reading the details about this, it seems like a permission that I may actually need to use in the near future. I am a veteran user and have most other permissions already, besides The Mop. I do not spend a lot of time in one place or another, but my general work here (and 2,000+ pages on my watchlist) has me regularly coming across IP vandals, socks, etc. It will allow me to continue to trace activity and make accurate reports when necessary. – Adolphus79 (talk) 15:54, 1 November 2025 (UTC) Adolphus79 (talk) 15:54, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I plan to use TA IP viewer rights to identify vandals and be able to quickly revert their edits to multiple pages. I am bad at usernames (talk · contribs) 23:13, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

When I edit Wikipedia, it is primarily related to patrolling RC and monitoring pages on my watchlist with known sockpuppet activity. TA IP viewer is thus highly useful for both of these activities. Fantastic Mr. Fox 18:12, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Fantastic Mr. Fox: while we’re here, could I request that you start consistently warning vandals when you revert them? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 19:06, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, will do. Fantastic Mr. Fox 19:10, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism investigations, e.g. I often check the /64 range of an IPv6 editor that has made unconstructive edits. Disclosure for that at e.g. WP:AIV might look like “Check their /64 range for more unconstructive edits.” Would that be kosher? I mean, is it OK to disclose that someone’s using IPv6? — W.andrea (talk) 17:44, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that’s kosher. You’re even allowed to say, when necessary for anti-abuse, that two temporary accounts are using the same IP or they geolocate to the same place (see WP:TAIV). One temporary account will be created per device, so a /64 range will often already be a single temporary account (or even a bigger range). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 18:54, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am an editor with over 3000 edits. Why I am requesting this is that I need to see IP addresses of LTAs such as WP:LTA/DTHD and trolls, who add unsourced content about TV channels when I warn them, so I can revert their edits. I sometimes see edits from 84.15.176.0/20 IP range, if there is sockpuppetry edits from Eimukas22. –LDM2003 talk to me! 21:35, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I’m a seasoned user who has over 13 years of editing experience (including 3 years as an IP). Obviously, I have over 3,000 edits. I am a career Anti-Vandal user, and I do plenty of work combatting vandalism, reporting accounts, and SPI work, and I also have the Rollbacker right. I also have some experience dealing with cross-wiki vandalism (often chasing en.wiki vandals to other wikis they’re disrupting). I’d like to request the TAIV right, in order to continue carrying out my anti-vandalism duties effectively. I do a lot of contribution reviewing as a part of my work. I’ve dealt with countless cases of IP-hopping or block evasion in the past, which I would need the TAIV tool in order to mitigate in the future. I’ve read the WP:TAIV policy page, and I understand the responsibilities and the rules that come with this user right (and the restrictions on IP disclosures/linkages), and I promise to wield it responsibly if it is granted. I have been monitoring Singapore related articles for vandalism and would need it for anti-vandal work. I am also a NPP and work on some pending Southeast Asian articles so it will be an asset to verify work. ~ JASWE (talk) 08:34, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have been following multiple sockpuppets through their IP addresses for several years, e.g.User:Arjayay/Sicilian which goes back to 2019, and have used these to revert their edits and ask for blocks and range-blocks. To continue this work, I need to be able to identify and locate IPs. – Arjayay (talk) 12:22, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I frequently rely on IP addresses (particularly the geoloc) for anti-vandalism and identification of sockpuppetry. Barry Wom (talk) 12:33, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I’m frequently involved in anti-abuse work so this would be a useful tool to have. I have reviewed the guidelines for this right and intend to follow them. C F A 12:42, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting viewer access so that IP context can continue to inform my SPI reports and vandalism reversion. My account has over 80,000 edits and I’ve read and understood the guidelines. Belbury (talk) 13:30, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I fully “Agree to use the IP addresses in accordance with Foundation policy, solely for the investigation or prevention of vandalism, abuse, or other violations of Wikimedia Foundation or community policies, and understand the risks and responsibilities associated with this privilege”. Furthermore, I do here and there revert vandalism as one of the things that I do here and feel that having this permission is a good early step and tool in identifying what the nature is of a vandal type interactions one might have with an IP address and their edit history. If you look at my history, you can see I’ve been active especially in the WP:LTA and WP:SPI areas – I don’t do much vandal patrolling anymore, but this right would be useful in helping keep track of LTAs and sockpuppetry. wizzito | say hello! 13:30, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
