LACS 1220 offers an interdisciplinary introduction to Latinx and people of Latin American and Caribbean origin in the United States as well as to the regions of Latin America and the Caribbean. This course explains the histories of these fields and how they come together for practical application in the real world and dispel a series of powerful myths associated with U.S. Latinx and in Latin American and Caribbean peoples and communities, such as racial inferiority, poverty, gender-bias, and violence. Finally, you will be introduced to the construction of Latinx, Latin American, and Caribbean identities as well as the politics, economics, history, and culture.
