Australian judge of the Federal Court of Australia

The Honourable Justice Yaseen Shariff is an Australian judge of the Federal Court of Australia, serving since 7 September 2023.[1] His appointment, alongside that of Christopher Horan KC, was announced by the Commonwealth Attorney-General in September 2023.[2]

Early life and education

Justice Shariff graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Economics (Social Sciences) and a Bachelor of Laws (First-Class Honours) in 2000.[1]

Justice Shariff was admitted to practice in New South Wales in 2001, called to the Bar in 2007 and took silk in 2020.[1] Before his appointment he practised across employment and industrial law, corporations and equity, professional negligence and regulatory matters.[3]

The Attorney-General announced Justice Shariff’s appointment on 1 September 2023, with his commission commencing on 7 September 2023 in the Sydney Registry.[2][4] A ceremonial sitting of a Full Court to welcome Justice Shariff was held on 13 September 2023, with speeches published by the Court and professional bodies.[5][6]
