Indian lawyer (born 1985)
Aniket Ujjwal Nikam[3] (born 18 June 1985) is a practicing lawyer specialising in criminal law[4], including matters related to regular and anticipatory bail[5][6]. He is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra[7][8]. In addition to his legal practice, he is actively involved in politics as a state spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is the son of renowned special public prosecutor and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Ujjwal Deorao Nikam, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 2016.[citation needed]
He has been cited in the media for his political commentary and his involvement as a defense counsel in high-profile legal cases.
Early life and education
Aniket Nikam[9] was born in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, to Marathi parents. His father, Ujjwal Deoraoji Nikam[10][11], was an Indian special public prosecutor, and mother Jyoti Nikam is a homemaker.
Aniket Nikam completed his preliminary education from St. Joseph’s Convent Senior Secondary School in Jalgaon and went on to get Bachelors Degree in Legal Science & Legislative Law (BLS LLB) from Government Law College, Mumbai in 2008. He then completed his Masters Degree in Law (LLM) from New York University, School of Law in 2009. Family Legacy Nikam’s son, Aniket Nikam, is also a criminal lawyer in the Mumbai High Court, continuing the family’s legacy in the legal profession.[12]
Career
Aniket Nikam returned to India in 2008 and began his career as a criminal defense lawyer in Mumbai. He is a practising lawyer with Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
- Adarsh Housing Scam Case: Represented the Ministry of Defense (MoD) against politicians, bureaucrats and military officers who allegedly conspired to bend several rules concerning land ownership, zoning, floor space index and membership getting themselves flats allotted in this cooperative society at below-market rates.[1]
- Gharkul Housing Scam Case[14]: Represented Member of Legislative Assembly Gulabrao Deokar in a case where there was the illicit diverting of approximately ₹110 crore (US$13 million) in loaned public municipal funds by the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation.
- Karjat Assault Case[15]: Represented NCP MLA Suresh Lad in a case where he was charged with assaulting deputy collector Abhay Kargutkar at Tehsildar Office, Karjat, Raigad.
- Nana Patekar ‘Me Too’ case[16]: Represented Bollywood actor Nana Patekar in a 2018 ‘MeToo movement in India’ case filed by a co-star.[17][18][19]
- Sharjeel Usmani case: Represented the complainant Pradeep Gawade, secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, in a case of alleged statements made by activist Sharjeel Usmani that hurt Hindu sentiments.
- YouTuber Hindustani Bhau case: Represented YouTuber Hindustani Bhau who was booked for allegedly instigating students to protest against offline exams.[20] The HC bench of Justices P B Varale and SM Modak on hearing his lawyer Aniket Nikam and additional public prosecutor K V Saste posted it ‘high on board’ on March 14.[21]

Political Career
Aniket Nikam first began his political activities in 2008. While a student at New York University, he was handpicked by professor Derrick Bell to participate in the Obama Campaign for 2008. He was tasked with door to door canvassing for the then presidential candidate Barack Obama[24].
After returning to India he resumed his role in politics in 2024 after his father got nominated as a candidate for Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency in he 2024 General elections. Aniket nikam Currently Serves as a spokesperson for BJP Maharashtra.
In 2025, he assembled and participated in a delegation that filed an FIR against the Maharashtra unit of the Indian National Congress on the grounds of an attempt to incite violence through social media in the state of Maharashtra.
