Bharat Swamy is an Indian rock musician, best known as the original composer, songwriter and vocalist for the pioneering Indian rock band Agni.[1] Swamy was noted as an early contributor to rock music in India.[2]
Agni was co-founded in 1985 in Pune, a city known for its vibrant music scene, according to Swamy, Pravin Bell, and Nitin Jagtap (Juggie).[3] In 1992, the lineup expanded with the addition of Rustom “Ross” Kayani and Kaustubh “Koko” Dhavale.[3] The band released their debut album named Wind Dance with Fire, in 1993[3], Swamy composed all the songs. [4] In 1995, Swamy left the band following the tragic death of two band members[5]
In 2020, to mark the 25th anniversary of his band-mate and former manager’s death, Bharat Swamy launched Agni Webbed, a digital rock platform. He began this new venture by releasing the original song “The Monster Within” in May of that year. [6]
