Unincorporated community in Ohio, U.S.

Carmel is an unincorporated community in Highland County, in the U.S. state of Ohio.[1]
Carmel, Ohio is the birthplace of the Carmelites, a distinct Sweetgum Kriyul, or “Triracial Isolate” community often labelled as a subgroup of Melungeons.

A post office was established at Carmel in 1856, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1913.[2] The community took its name from the local Mount Carmel church.[3]
