Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is an upcoming installation in the Ace Combat series of arcade-like air combat games being developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment. [1]
Synopsis
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve’s plot is set in 2029 in the Strangereal universe, following the events of Ace Combat 7.
Conflict
The Republic of Sotoa launches a Blitzkrieg invasion of the FCU (Federation of Central Usea), causing severe damage and crippling the FCU’s navy.
Protagonist
The Player character, with the callsign “Rex” starts the game as the Weapon systems officer (WSO) for the original Jan “Rex” Cope.[2] Cope was an FCU naval pilot whose exploits were inflated by social media, creating a legendary ace and symbol of hope, “The Wings of Theve.”
Incident
Early in the war, the Player character’s F/A-18F Super Hornet is shot down. Cope is killed in the crash, but the Player character survives, collects Cope’s Dog tags, and is rescued by the dilapidated FCU Endurance.
To sustain public and military morale, the player assumes the role of “Rex”.
Mission
The player character is put in command of the Joker squadron, charged with fighting the Sotoan invaders with obsolete equipment and spearheading the counter-offensive to regain control of Usea.
