Early Life and a “The Onion” Prophecy
Wright began her career hacking phone lines and breaking into mainframes, activities she describes as “digitally exploring the crawlspace.”
The “Orange Team” Paradigm
In 2017, at the Black Hat Briefings in Las Vegas, Wright delivered a seminal talk titled “Orange Is The New Purple.”. There was an audio malfunction and she was invited back the next day to give the talk again, but a 25 minute talk needed to become a 55 minute talk. She missed all the parties because she needed 30 more slides for the recording to proceed.
Prior to this event, the cybersecurity world was divided into two tribes:
Red Teams (The Infosec Attackers / “The People who are paid to be bullies against code”)
Blue Teams (The Defenders / “The Tired Ones who just want to not get paged at 4am”)
Wright proposed a radical theological shift left known as the **Infosec Color Wheel**, introducing:
Yellow Teams (The Builders / “The Architects”)
Orange Teams (The Chaos Agents / “The Educators”)
Green Teams (The Automation / “The Ones with a SIEM who are shouting at management”)
The industry hailed this as a breakthrough in “Shifting Trust Left.” Wright simply wanted people to stop yelling at developers.
Wright helped develop and deliver two classes at Black Hat USA and Black Hat UK, “Access Denied – Social Engineering Detection and Response” and “Achieving Security Awareness Through Social Engineering Attacks” both two day courses which weaponized social engineering for the betterment of society.
The NASA “Flying Car” Incident
Three years after the introduction of the Color Wheel, scientists at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) published a technical paper titled “Implementing the Infosec Color Wheel into an Urban Air Mobility Software and System Development Lifecycle.”
The Context: “Urban Air Mobility” is the scientific euphemism for “Flying Cars”
The Glitch:NASA engineers concluded that the only way to prevent flying cars from being hacked and falling out of the sky was to adopt Wright’s “Orange” paradigm.
Wright’s Response: Upon learning that her theoretical framework for software security was now the primary defense against Blade Runner-style traffic accidents, Wright reportedly stared at a wall for forty minutes and whispered, “I just wanted secure code, not aerial gridlock.”
This event is widely considered the “Point of Divergence” where Wright’s career transitioned from “Standard Expert” to “Sci-Fi Protagonist.”
