==Structure and Philosophy==
The EAC operates on the principle of decentralized and collective leadership, often summarized by the motto that “the real power must be in the base”. Academically, the EAC has been analysed as an organization fulfilling the function of a “collective intellectual” that articulates a transnational, class-struggle focused resistance against neoliberal hegemony.<ref name=:3>{{cite journal |last1=Bonfert |first1=Bernd |title=‘The real power must be in the base’ – Decentralised collective intellectual leadership in the European Action Coalition for the Right to Housing and to the City |journal=Capital & Class |date=December 2021 |volume=45 |issue=4 |pages=523–542 |doi=10.1177/0309816821997117 |url=https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0309816821997117 |access-date=5 December 2025}}</ref>

==Critiques and Objectives==
The EAC’s objectives are centred on exposing institutional responsibility for the housing crisis, such as opposition to financialization, opposing the role of investment funds and large corporations that treat housing as an instrument for private accumulation, detached from its social function.<ref>{{cite web |last1=PAH |first1=La |title=#HandsOffOurHomes – ¿Qué es la financiarización de la vivienda? Also critics the EU policies and his promotion of liberalization of the rental market and [[austerity]], forcing the sale of social housing or limiting funding for essential social services. And opposing to the Urban Agenda programs which aim to increase property prices and accelerate the displacement of working classes from city centres. In the other hand, EAC defend the right to the city, and advocating for a vision of the city where urban planning serves the needs of the people, not financial profit.<ref name=”:5″>{{cite web |title=European Action Coalition for the Right to Housing and to the City Calls for Action |url=https://hic-net.org/event/european-action-coalition-for-the-right-to-housing-and-to-the-city-calls-for-action/ |website=HIC GS |access-date=5 December 2025}}</ref>

The most significant and visible activity of the EAC is the coordination of the annual European Housing Action Days (HAD).
===Housing Action Days (HAD)===
The Housing Action Days (HAD) are annual events focused on coordinated mobilization, usually aligning with the conclusion of winter eviction moratoriums in various countries.<ref name=”:7″>{{cite web |title=The European Housing Action Days : 10 days, 120 actions in over 60 cities! {{!}} RIPESS Europe |url=https://ripess.eu/en/the-european-housing-action-days-10-days-120-actions-in-over-60-cities/ |access-date=5 December 2025}}</ref> These days bring together a range of local demands into a unified transnational movement. For example, in 2023, tens of thousands joined over 120 actions in more than 60 cities, highlighted by significant demonstrations in places such as Lisbon, Porto, Berlin, Dublin, Athens, and Paris. The tactics employed during these actions varied widely, including demonstrations, assemblies, and the occupation of vacant buildings, all aimed at challenging institutions that promote speculation.<ref name=”:8″>{{cite web |title=Colectivos de vivienda y clima se reúnen en Lisboa para construir “solidaridad global en tiempos de colapso” |url=https://www.elsaltodiario.com/movimientos-sociales/colectivos-vivienda-clima-se-reunen-lisboa-construir-solidaridad-global-tiempos-colapso |website=El Salto Diario |access-date=5 December 2025 |language=es |date=5 December 2025}}</ref>

The European Action Coalition for the Right to Housing and to the City (EAC) is a convergence process between movements from different cities in several european countries around the defense of housing for living and against real estate speculation, gentrification, austerity policies, and the financialization. After years of working independently, different movements, groups and social movements of tenants, slum and self-built neighborhoods dwellers, squat residents, victims of inadequate housing, victims of eviction or affected by indebtedness, professionals and researchers, started to gather in order to strengthen efforts and take common action and common positions on European Housing issues.[1]
Origin and Identity
In 2014, various campaings against Mipim, the biggest real estate fair worldwide were held in Cannes and London. Those descentralized actions to protest against vulture funds such as “Blackstone”, responsible of massive purchases of properties and thus promote speculation dynamics.[1]
All these joint-actions emerged to create a European Action Coalition for the Right to Housing and to the City, in order to adopt common positions on European housing policies and to create solidarity bonds between all those movements, which will enable them to strengthen their own struggles. This coalition will fight against the European space increasingly at the service of finance and deregulatory policies which affect the fundamental rights, and drive its populations to poverty and precariousness in all dimensions of their lives.[1]
The coalition brings together collectives from over 20 European countries, including organizations such as the Tenants’ Union of Catalonia and the Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (PAH) from Spain, London Renters Union (England), Habita! (Portugal), Căși Sociale ACUM! (Romania), and the Mieter:innengewerkschaft Berlin (Germany).[2][3]
The EAC operates on the principle of decentralized and collective leadership, often summarized by the motto that “the real power must be in the base”. Academically, the EAC has been analysed as an organization fulfilling the function of a “collective intellectual” that articulates a transnational, class-struggle focused resistance against neoliberal hegemony.[4]
The EAC’s objectives are centred on exposing institutional responsibility for the housing crisis, such as opposition to financialization, opposing the role of investment funds and large corporations that treat housing as an instrument for private accumulation, detached from its social function.[5] Also critics the EU policies and his promotion of liberalization of the rental market and austerity, forcing the sale of social housing or limiting funding for essential social services. And opposing to the Urban Agenda programs which aim to increase property prices and accelerate the displacement of working classes from city centres. In the other hand, EAC defend the right to the city, and advocating for a vision of the city where urban planning serves the needs of the people, not financial profit.[6]
