Gemy Maalouf (1996-2026) is a Lebanese fashion house founded in 1996 in Beirut by designer Gemy Maalouf which specializes in eveningwear and bridal couture. The brand introduced the concept of “Couture à Porter,” a design philosophy that blends couture-level craftsmanship with ready-to-wear accessibility.[1][2]
History
Gemy Maalouf was founded in 1996 in Beirut, Lebanon, by fashion designer Gemy Maalouf. The brand was established with the aim of making couture-level design more accessible through a concept later described as “Couture à Porter,” which combines elements of haute couture craftsmanship with ready-to-wear production.[3] In its early years, the brand focused primarily on eveningwear and building recognition within the regional fashion market. It expanded in 2004 with the introduction of it dedicated bridal line.[4][5]
During the 2010s, Gemy Maalouf increased its international expansion through wholesale partnerships and participation in fashion events outside Lebanon.[6] In 2018, the company launched Édition Gemy Maalouf, a secondary line designed to offer more silhouettes.[7] The brand entered the e-commerce market in 2020, enabling direct-to-consumer sales and supporting its global expansion strategy. In 2024, the company introduced Gemy Maalouf Atelier, a service focused on bespoke and semi-bespoke designs, and opened a private showroom in Dubai Design District, which established its presence in the Middle East. By the mid-2020s, the brand operated across multiple international markets through retail, wholesale, and online channels, while maintaining creative direction under its founder.[8]
