Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa is a beachfront resort hotel in Miramar Beach, Florida, United States.[1] Opened in 1984, it is the largest full-service beachfront resort hotel in Northwest Florida,[2] featuring 590 guest rooms and suites, seven dining venues, a full-service spa, three swimming pools and over 62,000 square feet (5,760 m²) of meeting and event space.[2] The property sits within the broader Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort community on the Gulf of Mexico.[3]

The hotel opened in 1984 within the 2,400-acre Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort development between the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay. In 1982, developer Frank Flautt acquired beachside property at Sandestin and began the project as a 400-unit condominium structure. In 1998, the resort underwent a major expansion, adding a 200-suite tower and additional commercial and amenity space, bringing the property to its current format.[4][3]

From 2022 to 2024, the resort completed a multi-phase, $35 million renovation in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The project included a full guestroom redesign, updates to pool facilities and beachfront deck areas, enhancements to dining outlets, a refresh of Serenity by the sea Spa and upgrades to meeting and event spaces.[2][5][6]

The hotel is independently owned and managed by Sandcastle Resorts & Hotels, a hospitality company led by Frank L. Flautt Jr. and Fred Alias.[7][2]

Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa is located on US Highway 98 in Miramar Beach, Florida, roughly 10 miles east of Destin. It is commonly accessed via Destin–Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) and Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP). Pensacola International Airport (PNS) is a regional option.[1]

The resort has 590 guest rooms and suites across its Emerald and Spa towers, including more than 400 family-oriented junior suites with bunk bed alcoves. Most rooms feature private balconies with full or partial Gulf views, complemented by modern coastal designs introduced during the 2022-2024 renovation.[1][2]

The resort’s seven dining venues include:

  • Seagar’s Prime Steaks & Seafood (est. 1998): Fine dining steakhouse recognized with AAA Four Diamond designation. Seagar’s is known for a 600-label wine list, USDA Prime steaks and Gulf seafood.[3][8][9]
  • Sandcastles Restaurant and Lounge: All-day American dining and late-night lounge menu.[1]
  • Barefoot’s Beachside Bar & Grill: Seasonal, casual beachfront dining.[1]
  • Hadashi Sushi Bar: Authentic Japanese sushi.[1]
  • Picnix Poolside Market: Seasonal grab-and-go snacks, meals and frozen treats.[1]
  • The Sand Bar: Seasonal frozen drinks, refreshments and lunch service directly on Sandestin beach.[1]
  • The Coffee Shop: Espresso drinks, fresh fruit and housemade pastries.[1]

Serenity by the sea Spa (opened 2001) is a full-service spa and salon open to resort guests and the public. Facilities include treatment rooms, a salon, a fitness center and touchless wellness technology.[3][6]

Pools and Recreation

[edit]

The resort features three pools (two outdoor and one indoor) and two whirlpools. The indoor pool was renovated in 2024 with updated flooring, lighting features and enhanced Gulf views. Outdoor amenities include a 22,500-square-foot beachfront deck with cabanas and direct access to the hotel’s beachfront along the Gulf Coast. Seasonal beach services include chair and umbrella rentals, kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals, volleyball and beach bonfires.[1][2][6]

Golf and Tennis Access

[edit]

Guests have access to four championship golf courses within the Sandestin resort: Raven Golf Club, Burnt Pine Golf Club, Baytowne Golf Club and the Links Golf Club, as well as the Dunes putting course. The wider resort complex also offers HydroGrid clay tennis courts. (These facilities are accessed through Sandestin; they are not operated by the hotel.)[1][9]

Significant capital projects include:

  • 1998: Expansion, including a 200-suite tower and approximately 60,000 square feet of additional space.[3][4]
  • 2013-2015: $30 million renovation, including guestroom and dining outlet updates, a spa expansion, and a new 7,500 square foot ballroom.[10]
  • 2022-2024: $35 million, property-wide renovation (guestrooms; indoor/outdoor pools and beach deck; dining outlet refreshes; spa updates; meeting space enhancements).[2][5][6]
