Controversies

Suspension for indiscipline (2024)

On 30 November 2024, the Government of Kerala suspended IAS officers K. Gopalakrishnan and Prasanth N. on charges of indiscipline.[13]

According to the government order, Prasanth had allegedly posted comments on social media criticising Additional Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, accusing him of circulating false reports relating to administrative matters. The state government noted that publicly criticising senior AIS officers may violate provisions of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968.[14]

Unnathi project file dispute

The suspension followed allegations involving missing files relating to the *Unnathi* project — a scholarship and training initiative for SC/ST students — during Prasanth’s tenure as its CEO. Media reports said the dispute contributed to tensions between him and senior officials.[15]

Political misconduct allegations

Former Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty Amma alleged that Prasanth was involved in political interference during the state’s deep-sea fishing deal controversy. Prasanth denied the allegations and claimed he was being targeted for raising administrative concerns.[16]

Public image

Prasanth is known for his active social-media presence, particularly on Facebook, and was popularly referred to as “Collector Bro” during his tenure in Kozhikode.[17]
