DramaBox is a Chinese short-form video streaming platform specializing in duanjus.[1] It is backed and owned by Beijing-based Dianzhong Technology.
DramaBox focuses on 1–2 minute vertical Duanjus tailored for international audiences. Its content spans a wide range of popular genres, including Wuxia, Xianxia, vampires and werewolves, wealthy family feuds, and fantasy romance.
In February 2025, DramaBox received the ‘2024 Best Short Drama App’ award from Sensor Tower, making it the sole recipient in the short-form drama category.[2][3] It was then selected by Disney to join the Disney Accelerator program.[4][5][6] [7]
Between 2020 and 2022, China’s Duanju industry began to mature and move toward professionalization. By 2024, the format had become a cultural phenomenon across the country. Following this domestic success, several media companies launched dedicated apps—such as ReelShort—to introduce Duanjus to the international market.[8] Against this backdrop, Beijing Dianzhong Technology launched DramaBox in 2023.[1] DramaBox and ReelShort were among the first batch of Duanju platforms to expand outside of China.[1]By 2025, DramaBox had expanded to over 150 countries, with its download numbers and viewership ranking among the top in every market. It stands alongside ReelShort as a global leader in the Duanju sector.[9][10] [11][12]
DramaBox utilizes a hybrid monetization model where users can purchase virtual coins to unlock individual episodes of its shows. Alternatively, the app offers a subscription-based service that provides users with unrestricted access to its entire content library.
In June 2025, DramaBox topped the global download charts for Duanju apps with 13.45 million monthly downloads. [13] In Q1 2025, DramaBox saw its in-app revenue grow by 29%, reaching $120 million. As of March 2025, DramaBox has generated USD $450 million in cumulative global in-app revenue, making it the world’s second-highest grossing short-drama app after ReelShort.[10]
