The football tournament at the 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles and other cities of the United States from July 12 to 29, 2028.[1]
Two different tournaments will be held in this sport: men’s and women’s.
United States is the women’s defending champions. Spain is the men’s defending champions.
The Rose Bowl in Pasadena (California), which will host the knockout stage matches, is the only stadium which has been confirmed. The other stadiums of the tournament are yet to be decided.
In April 2025, the IOC Executive Board approved a recommendation for 12 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams.[2] The FIFA Council has not yet approved the final allocation of places for the Olympic football tournaments; however, CONMEBOL had previously published its own qualification system for its conferderation’s women’s football qualification.[3]
