Lord of the Flies is an upcoming television adaptation of the 1954 novel of the same name by William Golding. It was adapted by Jack Thorne, directed by Marc Munden and executive produced by Joel Wilson for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.[2]
The series tells the story of a group of young boys who find themselves stranded on a tropical island. In an attempt to remain civil, the boys organise themselves, led by Ralph and supported by the group’s intellectual, Piggy. But Jack, who is in charge of signal fire duty, is more interested in hunting and vying for leadership and begins to draw other boys away from the order of the group and ultimately from hope to tragedy.
Adapted from the 1954 novel of the same name by William Golding, Lord of the Flies is produced by Eleven for BBC iPlayer and BBC One in a co-production with Stan in Australia, and Sony Pictures Television as the international distributor.[1] The adaptation is planned to consist of four 60-minute episodes, each titled after one of the main characters: Ralph, Piggy, Simon and Jack.[1] The series is being made with the support of Golding’s family.[1] Stills were first released in October 2025.[3]
In October 2023, the BBC announced that Nina Gold would cast the series and that the production was seeking boys aged 10–13 years old with no acting experience required.[4] Alongside the main cast, an ensemble of more than 20 boys will be playing the desert island camp’s “big ‘uns” and “little ‘uns”.[1]

In September 2024, principal photography was confirmed to be taking place in Malaysia, with plans for filming in the UK later in the year.[1]
In September 2024, the BBC confirmed that Hans Zimmer was co-creating the series’ original score, alongside Kara Talve for Bleeding Fingers Music.[5]
