2025 aviation accident in South Sudan
On November 25, 2025, a Let L-410UVP operating as Nari Air Flight 114 crashed while on approach in Leer County, Greater Upper Nile, South Sudan, killing all three crew members. The aircraft was operating a chartered cargo flight.
Nari Air said on their website that it operates out of South Sudan and offers a range of services, including chartered services for cargo and passengers. It describes itself as fast, reliable, trusted and professional.[1]
Three crew members were on board the plane. They were identified as a Ukrainian pilot, a Kenyan and a South Sudanese flight engineer.[2]
The aircraft took off from Juba en route to Leer County carrying two tonnes of relief goods for Evangelical charity organization Samaritan’s Purse to help displaced people in communities affected by severe flooding. The aircraft encountered unspecificed difficulties on approach and crashed in a remote area only reachable on foot around 20-kilometre (12Â mi) away from Leer County Airstrip at around 8:30Â p.m. CAT.[3][2] A witness reported seeing someone jump from the plane moments before it crashed. Two bodies were recovered and sent to a morgue, while a third was missing as of November 26.[4]
The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) said an investigation team had been dispatched to determine the cause of the accident.[2] The Executive Director and Acting Commissioner of Leer County said he sent teams of security forces to the site. South Sudan has a history of aviation accidents, often linked to ageing aircraft, overloading, limited safety infrastructure, and challenging weather conditions, with many incidents involving flights operating in remote or poorly equipped airstrips, often under difficult weather conditions.[5]
