Suzy Lee Weiss is an American journalist and writer for The Free Press, the news outlet founded by her older sister, Bari Weiss.[1]
Early life and education
Weiss gained notoriety for her viral 2013 op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, where as a senior at Taylor Allderdice High School she complained that she had not been rejected from four Ivy League universities.[2][3][4][5] The piece received mixed reactions, with Kira Goldenberg writing for the Columbia Journalism Review that “It was irresponsible for the WSJ to let a teen create a search history she could end up regretting”.[6][7][8][9] Others characterized the op-ed as an accurate commentary on the “hypocrisies and absurdities” of the college admissions process, while noting the lack of a “fallback” college option.[10]
Weiss later described her op-ed as satire.[11]
Weiss later attended the University of Michigan, where she edited the campus satyrical newspaper, the Every Three Weekly.[12][13]
Career
Weiss previously worked as a features reporter at the New York Post.[14]
In 2021, Suzy joined The Free Press, the media outlet founder by her sister Bari Weiss and Bari’s wife, Nellie Bowles.[15] She has extensively covered pop culture and entertainment, including Taylor Swift, Ozempic, and the 2025 Emmys.[16][17][18]
