Hello. You’re invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We’re aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It started today on Monday June 16 and will run until Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help make the content produced as diverse and broad as possible!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:14, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Acrom12,

I was happy that you categorised the article This Motherless Land but returning from class now, I saw that you further tagged it for notability and sourcing issues. Really? Haven’t you read about WP:NBOOK, which the book met since it was a nominee perhaps shortlist title for the Nigeria Prize for Literature, the most prestigious literary award in the country, as well as the many reviews from notable sources which meet WP:RS, hence my assumption of wrong tagging. What other sources was you expecting when you said “needs more sources for verification” when all the sentences/paragraphs has a citation? I would have simply reverted you but because I don’t want you to maybe continue making that error I’m other article, hence my message herein. WP:TAGGING may be of paramount interest to you. Cheers! Hi @SafariScribe,
Thanks for your message! I appreciate your explanation and your work on This Motherless Land. When I tagged the article, it appeared to have only one or two independent sources and one publisher listing, which did not yet meet WP:NBOOK at that stage.
I see you’ve since added multiple independent reviews and references from reliable outlets that certainly strengthens the article’s notability. I’ll take another look and, if those reviews provide significant coverage, I’m happy to remove the notability and sourcing tags.
Thanks again for improving the article and for the helpful feedback — much appreciated Acrom12 (talk) 17:32, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @SafariScribe, just wanted to clarify, when I first came across This Motherless Land, it only had the two sources (Narrative Landscape Press and Kirkus Reviews). I didn’t realize you had expanded it and added more references before I tagged it. My bad on that… sorry about the mix-up! I appreciate the improvements you made and the extra sourcing. The article’s looking much stronger now. Acrom12 (talk) 17:45, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your banner. Wondered if you’d take a look at the article now. thanks Shelter3 (talk) 11:43, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Shelter3! I took another look. The article has improved, but some statements still need citations, and a few sentences could be more neutral. Because it’s a BLP, we need solid sources for everything. Let me know when you update it again and I’ll check it. Acrom12 (talk) 12:09, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I tagged the article because some claims were not supported by the sources, and a few sentences sounded more like a feature article than an encyclopedic entry. For a BLP, every major statement needs a clear citation, and the tone has to stay neutral. When those are fixed, the tags can be taken down. Acrom12 (talk) 12:13, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, not sure what you mean: I fixed the link to CNN as it was behind a paywall, maybe that will help?–Shelter3 (talk) 12:57, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing the CNN link is good, but the issue isn’t the link… it’s that some of the claims in the article are still not backed by any source at all.
A few examples:

  • Parts of the Background and education section don’t have citations.
  • Some sentences in Career still sound a bit promotional or “story-like,” which is why the tone tag is still there.
  • A couple of statements about his influence and recognition need sources to confirm them.
The article is improving, but those unsourced lines still need proper references. Once everything is cited and the tone is a bit more neutral, the tags can be removed. Acrom12 (talk) 13:09, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
They’re all in the articles I cited. I didn’t make any of this up. I don’t like overciting especially from the same source one after another but i’ll see what I can do. thanks–Shelter3 (talk) 19:50, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Shelter3, I understand, and I did read all the sources you added. The issue isn’t that the information is made up… it’s that some statements in the article aren’t actually supported by what the sources say. Because it’s a BLP, every claim needs to match the source directly. A few lines in the article go beyond what the references confirm, and that’s why the tags are still there. For example, the article says he “sees himself as a cultural ambassador to China,” but none of the sources actually phrase it that way. Acrom12 (talk) 23:08, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
