Paul Taylor-McCartney is a British writer, researcher and lecturer whose work spans dystopian literature, memory and identity, and initial teacher education. He completed a PhD in English (Creative Writing) at the University of Leicester with the thesis The Recollector and On Dystopian Fiction and Memory (2022).[1] He has held roles in teacher education, including Head of Secondary Teacher Education at the University of Warwick.[2]
Taylor-McCartney’s scholarly and creative work examines dystopian fiction, memory and identity. His peer-reviewed article “Hideous Progeny” in NAWE’s Writing in Practice explores how failures of science and technology inform dystopian texts, with reference to his own creative work The Recollector.[3]
He has also written on teacher education, including a co-authored BERA blog post “Interrogating the notion of the seaside idyll in the context of initial teacher training” (2021), which reflects on an ITT expansion pilot in coastal schools,[4] and an evaluation report on postgraduate teaching apprenticeships for the OneCornwall Teaching School Hub (2025).[5]
