:::::::::::PBugaboo, I’m not sure if you’ve realized but the WikiProject you’ve linked is not official policy and is marked as dormant. It has not been actively worked on in years. It’s also a WikiProject, so even if was active, it still is not official guidelines. |

:::::::::::What’s really yikes is going through old logs and looking for bad behavior when really not necessary. I wanna work with you and collaborate in good faith but it’s hard when you are constantly trying to make me out to be a bad guy. That goes against Wikipedia policy than any heated argument I’ve had. This is strange behavior on your end, if I am being honest. I’ve seen lots of examples of non-music being included in discographies. Per MOS:DISCOGRAPHY, The exact format chosen will depend on the discography and the amount of verifiable information available, which may vary greatly between musical acts. In all cases, the format should follow from what’s best for the article, and not vice versa.
Is there something I’m missing?
In the case of the Ween discography, I don’t think deleting the information completely helps the article. I have re-added G.N.A.R. with a citation. WidgetKid chat me 17:02, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Honestly, I just don’t feel like arguing about it anymore but format doesn’t mean including films in a music section. A source should also not be the film itself, that still doesn’t show notabiliy.
- I’m not gonna revert it again or anything just because it doesn’t seem worth but it still shouldn’t be included in a discography section. IzzySwag (talk) 17:31, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Notability isn’t needed for every source, just to meet WP:GNG. There are plenty of primary sources used across WP articles.
- “
it still shouldn’t be included in a discography section
” according to what? WidgetKid chat me 17:39, 4 February 2026 (UTC)- The Manual of Style. There is nothing in it that says you should include film or television apperances in the discography. Discographies do not cover film and television apperances. IzzySwag (talk) 17:41, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Where does it say that? All I found was “
The exact format chosen will depend on the discography and the amount of verifiable information available, which may vary greatly between musical acts. In all cases, the format should follow from what’s best for the article, and not vice versa.
” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ WidgetKid chat me 18:02, 4 February 2026 (UTC)- The exact format does not mean inclusion of films and television. It doesn’t explicitly say it because to include film and teleivsion in a discography goes against the definition of discography. They did not think anyone would choose to go against the definition of the word discography. IzzySwag (talk) 18:08, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Again, can you point to something that says that? Was there a discussion somewhere, or is this all your interpretation? WidgetKid chat me 20:13, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Discography. Find the mention of film and television apperances in a discography in the article.
- Your argument right now is equivalent to going up to a dog and calling it a cat, then when told, “No. That’s a dog.”, you say, “Can you find proof that this specific creature is not a cat? Or is that just your intrepretation?” IzzySwag (talk) 20:16, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Did you read that article? First line:
Discography is the study and cataloging of published sound recordings and/or video recordings…
” (my emphasis added
). Also Recent definitions do not distinguish between audio and video recordings…
WidgetKid chat me 01:54, 5 February 2026 (UTC)- Video recordings are different to movies. Like, for example, concert recordings or video albums or music videos. See Metallica discography. Wanna know what’s not present there? Movies that feature Metallica music, even in the section specifically for videos! Their other apperances section, comparable to the one in the Ween discography article, also does not feature films, only soundtrack and compilation appearances.
- Films do not belong in discographies. If the Metallica discography article (or any other discography article on the site) does not prove this to you, I do not know what to do. Discography does not include films. That’s not what the definition of the word is. Dogs are not cats. IzzySwag (talk) 02:04, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- Finding this guidance from WikiProject Discographies/style did not take a significant period of time. I Googled “Wikipedia discographies style” and it was the first result. Finding and referring to this would have been faster, nicer, and end the discussion amicably.
- What should not be included:
- Non-original or previously-released material used on soundtracks, trailers, commercials, or any other compilation releases.
- Please stop treating people like they’re stupid? And attacking people to make your points? Even if you’re correct in any one particular matter, being heated or aggressive about it is simply not nice
- I came here to thank you for considering alternative wording during our discussion on the Act III RFC as it looked like things were starting to change in our interactions. Then I saw this. Then I went looking…
- From the vast majority of the history of this current page, to a history of getting heated to the point of edit warring as noted by multiple users [1], to rude aspects of comments you’ve sent to me [2][3][4][5][6], this really seems to be an ongoing pattern of behaviour.
