Hi, I’ve started a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard#Bono state Kowal2701 (talk) 07:21, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I’ve noticed that a lot of your shortened footnotes aren’t accompanied by a linked entry in the sources section of the article in question. For example, on the Bono Manso article, there are shortened footnotes to Boahen 2006, Ameyaw 1979, Kumah 2024, Flight 1970, Silverman 2015, and Warren 1975, but none of these appear in the sources section. Please make sure that you include the full information for these sources, using the appropriate formatting. Check out WP:SRF for more information. If the source is only used once in the article, it’s probably easier to put the full bibliographic information between <ref> tags rather than using shortened footnotes.

I’ve noticed this problem on Bono Manso, Asante Empire, Adanse, Bono state, Akan people, and Wenchi, but it may happen elsewhere as well. It also might be due to typos or errors in the source listing. I apologize if any of these pages are not your doing.

Thanks for all your good work! Catjacket (talk) 11:34, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Some of them are not my doing, I’ve primarily been editing Adanse as of recent. I will try my best to find and fix them. Norcer has been a major contributor to the Bono and Akan pages, I would reach out to him as well. Thank you for the feedback. AkanArchives (talk) 12:56, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Starting with this edit on May 10th, you added Sfn cites that do not have a target reference within the article. These edits all have automatic edit summaries of “Tag: harv or sfn error”. Please take a look at Category:Harv and Sfn template errors and adjust these errors and warnings per the instructions and tips found at Category:Harv and Sfn template errors#Resolving errors. – Shearonink (talk) 19:49, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve been taking a look at the Adanse article and there are quite a few issues with the Sfn cites…17 do not link up with target references. If you’ll take a look at Ref #1/Konadu & Campbell, you’ll notice that the Sfn shortened footnote links up with a complete reference, and that complete reference is listed under “Sources” –The Ghana Reader. The following cites have no target reference: Refs # 4, 5, 9, 11, 19, 28, 29, 30, 39, 40, 41, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, & 52. If you can, please add the complete references under “Sources”. There are also some issues with the Kea Sfns. The Sfn cites are {{sfn|Kea|1982|p=523}}, but the Kea complete reference has a publication date of 2021 so that also needs to be fixed. – Shearonink (talk) 13:53, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening, I have provided the sources for Konadu, Kea and Shinnie. AkanArchives (talk) 01:06, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. Thanks for fixing Addo-Fening/Refs 28 & 30. Here’s the thing with this article. There were 4 Harv warnings and I had fixed 3. I again have fixed Anquandah, Arhin, and Kwasi/2022 by adding “ref=none” to their complete reference. They are unused sources. When you removed “ref=none” you broke the fixed references. Please leave those edits alone.
However, you said you provided the sources for Kea? Again. Kea’s work was published in 2021, but all the Kea Sfn cites still have a publication date of 1982. And a Kea reference with a publication date of 1982 does not exist in this article.
And looking at Shinnie and Konadu. When I had previously edited this article, those cites were fine. They did not need to be adjusted or corrected.
Here are the refs I listed above + (bolded) new ones – Refs # 4, 5, 9, 11, 15, 16, 19, 26, 29, 39, 40, 41, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 52, 56, & 61.
There are now 21 Sfn cites that lack their target or complete reference citations, like Template:cite web or Template:cite book or Template:cite journal. There is now 1 Harv warning left, the Kea (What year was it published, 1982 or 2021?) Sfn cite. – Shearonink (talk) 04:44, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Along with Shearonink, I have concerns about your editing–particularly around references. I’ve seen several articles over the last few days which you have edited, but left with significant referencing problems. (See my fixes to Wankyi, Adanse, Akan people, and Asante Empire.) You might want to construct articles in draft space before making them public. You should review your work for changes before submitting it to see if there are any errors. If you need help with editing, particularly referencing, it is available.

Please take more care. — mikeblas (talk) 17:43, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

On May 22nd, in this edit you added {{sfn|Stahl|2016|p=24}} to the Begho article. There’s a problem with this cite…it has no complete reference to target and, so, it is throwing a sfn error: no target/Harv error because “Stahl2016” doesn’t point to a complete citation. This has happened before in your editing, now you just need to add the complete reference so please… fix this cite. I do admire your editing zeal, you are obviously an editor with expertise and sources at your fingertips for this subject. I tried to fix this cite but I am unsure as to which particular book or article or monograph “Stahl2016” is. I have spent too much time in this session trying to figure out which of Ann B. Stahl’s many writings this sfn cite refers to so I have been unable to correct this Verifiability issue. – Shearonink (talk) 01:58, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening, I am working diligently on fixing these citation errors. Thank you for the assistance and apologies in advance for the issues, some of these mistakes were from when I was a new poster on the platform. AkanArchives (talk) 02:15, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This has now been corrected, with the claims on Nyarko and the Brong population supported directly by Posnansky (2015, p. 96). Apologies again for the hassle. AkanArchives (talk) 02:50, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the Harv cite/sfn cites can be very tricky to master. When I’m editing I always use “Preview” to check for any mistakes. Have you taken a look at User:Trappist the monk/HarvErrors? It has a script you can install that can help you spot Sfn/Harv cite errors. Also, Template:Sfn#Possible issues has a list of possible Sfn issues and how to fix them. Thanks for fixing the last remaining Harv cite issue at Begho, it’s no longer in Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors. – Shearonink (talk) 04:10, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good evening,
Sorry if I am being a headache but is there a way we can check for errors on Bono People and Bono State. These were one of the earliest articles I contributed to and I wanted to make sure there were no issues. I’m still having a tough time fixing the issues. AkanArchives (talk) 01:51, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You’re not being a headache at all. I’d be happy to check for you, but maybe take a look at User:Trappist the monk/HarvErrors. It has information and explanations on the Harv cite error script that I installed on my common.js page and that I use – it’s just a tool that makes it so I can see Harv cite issues. – Shearonink (talk) 02:40, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You can always check Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors, even if you don’t have the Harv error script installed. “Bono State” had one error. Please check that Wilks|1982 was actually supposed to be Wilks|1961. I’m not sure what you mean by Bono People…an article by that particular name does not exist, see how it’s in red? – Shearonink (talk) 02:49, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I found the other article, it’s actually called Bono people. I just gave it a quick glance tonight and it had 6 Harv warnings & 7 Harv errors. I fixed 3 of the Harv warnings. I’ll take a look at the rest tomorrow and see what I can fix. – Shearonink (talk) 03:00, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello !

I’m a big contributor of africain history in the french wikipedia. I was going to completly rework the Gyaman article with multiple source, and i noticed that the english version (i translated one year ago) has been highly reworked by you lately. Thanks for that, it’s well referenced. I will check if my sources has anything to complete. Nanoyo88 (talk) 06:11, 8 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please don’t move war like you did at Great Akan. When a bold change gets reverted, you’re supposed to discuss it and come to an agreement with the reverting editor per WP:BRD. We have policies that determine what we title our articles (WP:AT). It’s unclear what the common name is in sources, but brackets are only used in titles when disambiguating from another article of the same name. If a bold move gets reverted, it’s usually best to start a requested move (instructions are at that page, please click on some of these links) Kowal2701 (talk) 06:20, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve made a request at WP:RMT to move it to Akani. Btw, sorry I only just realised you’re AkanArchives, didn’t know you’d changed your name Kowal2701 (talk) 06:33, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Goodmorning, I hade no idea you moved the page back, I have been having issues with Wiki edits lately and assumed the move glitched and did not work, my apologies I should have checked the edit history. As for “Great Akan”, it should be moved to Akani because “Great Akan” specifically referred to Akyem (“Groot Acanij”or “Acanes Grandes”) in all sources. The entire region (including Adanse-Assin, Denkyira and Akyem) were all referred to as Akani (multiple variations) or Arcania in most sources so I thought the title should reflect such. Akani was taken so I added “(Arcania)”. I was hoping to get the page moved back if at all possible.
For context please see one of the maps in Akyem Kingdoms. Oti Ne Asare (talk) 10:32, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about this, our policies on titling articles are convoluted. I’m going to move it back to your title. Akani and Arcania are both disambiguation pages, so your title does make sense. I think this is the primary topic for “Akani”, but I don’t have page mover rights to change it to that so we would have to do a requested move which would take at least a week, and is not worth the hassle. Again, apologies about this Kowal2701 (talk) 12:00, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Not it’s fine, I was originally got to move it to “Old Akani”, “Kingdoms of Akani”, “Akani City-States”, or “Akan Kingdom” but it’s way too complex and there are different interpretations.
Daaku explains it here from pages 147 to 148:
https://archive.org/details/politics-on-the-gold-coast-1600-1720-by-kwame-yeboa-daaku/page/147/mode/1up
Also for a basic summary of all the interpretations, Sam’s Spiers compiles some of them here:
https://books.google.com/books?id=aUgzKQ9zXa8C&pg=PA123&dq=adansi+city+states&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_search&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi9qeu9hYaSAxULLtAFHVg1Fi0Q6AF6BAgJEAM#v=onepage&q=adansi%20city%20states&f=false
Please let me know your thoughts. Oti Ne Asare (talk) 12:53, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Walter C. Rucker has a god write up on it as well. Please see:
https://books.google.com/books?id=6ZB2CgAAQBAJ&pg=PA29&dq=Walter+rucker+adanse+akani&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_search&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjhm8DPh4aSAxW24MkDHV4-AvEQ6AF6BAgIEAM#v=onepage&q=Walter%20rucker%20adanse%20akani&f=false Oti Ne Asare (talk) 13:02, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I did wonder whether we could name it something other than what early Europeans did, but from those sources “Akani” seems like the most neutral name that covers the various interpretations. Maybe Akani polity because polity is quite a catch-all term? Kowal2701 (talk) 13:36, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It’s best to leave it as is, not to mention “Akani” is the most used name to refer to it. This makes it an easier reference to look up for future readers. Oti Ne Asare (talk) 22:31, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
