:::: I assume you’ve got WP:Notability covered, because I think we talked about that before. Try to make it sound more like a narrative you would see in an encyclopedia, less like a flyer. Lose the bullets in Objectives, and Key topics, or just drop the sections. Make sure that Format and structure, Contributions to digital identity, and Future directions are sourced, or drop them. :::::I’ve removed many bullets. The OpenID Wikipedia page already explicitly lists the contribution of IIW to its development. I will have to enlist the help of others to add the missing references, and will continue to work on adding them myself as the opportunity arises. Some of the existing references fill this in, in their own way. Thanks again for your help! Scottmace (talk) 03:43, 15 October 2025 (UTC) |

Hi Scottmace! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

Some tips:
- Currently, seven articles mention “Internet Identity Workshop” somewhere in the article.
- However, no other article links to it. (It would be a red link, if they did.)
- There used to be an article called “Identity Commons”, but it was deleted following this Afd discussion. Why am I mentioning this? Because there also used to be a redirect to it, named “Internet Identity Workshop”, and that redirect was also deleted as part of the Afd resolution. Redirects are generally synonyms or closely related to what they point to, so it may be interesting to look more into the history of the deleted page “Identity Commons”. If you want to get the deleted article back so you can examine it and see if you can use any of it in your article, you can make a WP:REFUND request at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion. Then you could copy content or references out of it into your subpage if you like. (If you do, please read WP:CWW about providing proper attribution for the copy. Copying from another Wikipedia article is fine, but attribution is mandatory in this case, so don’t skip this step if you do.)
Hope this helps! P.S. Btw, cool logo

- Thanks Mathglot. I tried to request undeletion of “Identity Commons” and it seems I need to do it some other way than through the Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion page. Can you advise? Scottmace (talk) 20:57, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- You should have gotten a ping from there, but for the record, I have placed a request at WP:REFUND#Identity Commons. Mathglot (talk) 03:38, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
Scottmace, the deleted article “Identity Commons” has been moved to your userspace, and can now be found at User:Scottmace/Identity Commons. Please do not edit it. We should go over the purpose of having it, and establish some ground rules, so to speak. The undeletion was performed as a courtesy, based on acting administrator User:78.26‘s confidence that I will act appropriately within Wikipedia’s policies and guidelines, and by extension, that you will as well; so my reputation is at stake here. (Somewhat analogous to a journalist’s reputation to protect their sources.) So, let’s go over a few things:
- Purpose: The undeleted page is there temporarily, to mine for sources or assertions that can then be looked up elsewhere in reliable sources. It may contain unverified, possibly false content which we may search for information or assertions related to the “Internet Identity Workshop” draft you are developing (link), and that may be of assistance in searching for reliable sources elsewhere that may have content that could be used to expand your draft.
- What it is not: It is not a draft undergoing development, and it will not become an article at Wikipedia, or remain here in any capacity for more than a short period. It is not a reliable source that can be copied or cited.
- Changes: Please do not change or edit the undeleted article at all; consider it to be in read-only mode. (I probably should have asked for full protection; but I think we are good.)
- Fate: The page will be deleted again, unaltered, after we are done mining it for information.
- Expiration: May I suggest two weeks as a suitable period to have access to it? That would make it deleteable again on 3 September. If that is problematic based on your RL schedule, please suggest a different date.
- Copying: Nothing should be copied, paraphrased, translated, or adapted from the undeleted article into your draft, or into any page on Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project, even temporarily. It is to be used solely to look for assertions which can be independently verified elsewhere and written up in your draft based on those sources. It is a (possibly bogus) idea factory.
Please indicate whether you agree to these terms; if the suggested two-week expiration is insufficient, please propose a different one. If I haven’t heard from you by 3 September, I will request that it be deleted again. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 22:58, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Scott, at first blush, the article seems completely useless; nothing but promotional material. There are a few Wikipedia articles listed in its See-also section that you could add to your draft, and other than that, I don’t see a single useful crumb of information in the whole thing. Lmk what you think, but afaic, we can just submit it for deletion again (and good riddance). Mathglot (talk) 03:08, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, I copied it into a Google Doc for examination there. You can go ahead and “redelete” it at your leisure, and thanks. Scottmace (talk) 23:50, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
I have requested re-deletion of User:Scottmace/Identity Commons via db-g4. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 02:10, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- That’s fine, I’ve saved off the content for my own review and possible use, with all the caveats you had previously conveyed. Scottmace (talk) 03:10, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- I’m about ready to move my IIW page to a new public page, but before I do, I created some red links, and when I clicked on one of the red links, I noticed the following message:
- A page with this title has previously been moved or deleted.
- If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the user(s) who performed the action(s) listed below.
- I plan to continue with page creation anyway because this is a new page with different content to whatever is being referred to here (probably the deleted Identity Commons page, which you and I have already discussed) Scottmace (talk) 01:39, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- You are welcome to create the page anyway, and can ignore the warning. Unless the page has been salted which is doubtful, you should be able to create it. Mathglot (talk) 01:43, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, I shall proceed Scottmace (talk) 01:44, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- I assume you’ve got WP:Notability covered, because I think we talked about that before. Try to make it sound more like a narrative you would see in an encyclopedia, less like a flyer. Lose the bullets in Objectives, and Key topics, or just drop the sections. Make sure that Format and structure, Contributions to digital identity, and Future directions are sourced, or drop them. Mathglot (talk) 02:05, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- I’ve removed many bullets. The OpenID Wikipedia page already explicitly lists the contribution of IIW to its development. I will have to enlist the help of others to add the missing references, and will continue to work on adding them myself as the opportunity arises. Some of the existing references fill this in, in their own way. Thanks again for your help! Scottmace (talk) 03:43, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
