I removed the categories because I thought draft pages weren’t supposed to include categories until they are accepted into the mainspace. Since I’m still learning the formatting rules, I didn’t want to do anything incorrectly.

Yes and no. Typically, drafts shouldn’t have categories, though if you put a colon before a category (e.g. [[:Category:Living people]]), they become a link instead of being part of the category (Category:Living people).
