Hello, Wausaucurling, and welcome to Wikipedia! I’m Mathglot and I’ve volunteered to be your Wikipedia mentor. I’m here for you whenever you need help with Wikipedia. It’s great to have you on board to help create this online encyclopedia.

See your homepage for a brief tutorial. Here are a few links you might find helpful:
Need some ideas about what kind of things need doing? Try the “Suggested edits” module top left on your homepage, or the Task Center.
Help is available: as your Mentor, you can always find me listed in the “Get editing help” module bottom right on your homepage; there are also additional help links there. You can also ask me questions directly on my talk page, or try the Wikipedia:Teahouse to get help designed especially for new users from a team of experienced volunteers. So go ahead and ask questions — we’re here to help!
Once again, welcome to Wikipedia! Mathglot (talk) 04:04, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, “Wausaucurling“, may not meet Wikipedia’s username policy because it sounds like the name of an organization or group, and Wikipedia accounts must correspond to a single individual.. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. A username like, “Wausaucurling Mike” or “Wausaucurling jersey14” would be fine, but not just plain “Wausaucurling”. Let me know if you would like additional information about changing your username. - Wausaucurling, looks ike your account was blocked, suspending your ability to edit all pages at Wikipedia, with the sole exception of this one. The advice I gave you earlier about requesting a change of username via Special:GlobalRenameRequest was correct procedure at that time, but while you are blocked, I think it may no longer be the correct approach. Also, the previous advice about just starting to edit under a new account is also no longer available to you, as that would seem like block evasion, so don’t do that, either. Instead, follow the instructions in the block message below, which asks for two inputs from you via the {{unblock}} template: 1. your desired new username, and 2.the reason you should be unblocked.
- Regarding #1, you can verify that your chosen name is available for use before you request it by using the Username Validator. As far as #2, you can just repeat what you said in the discussion below. I’d leave out the part about denying it was spam, because admins are in a better position to determine what counts as spam (or anything else) under Wikipedia’s rules. I get what you meant: you meant to say that your intent was not to spam, but that’s not precisely what the question is about, so tread lightly there. You can say you didn’t intend to, or you could just leave it out.
- I wouldn’t sweat this too much, it is perfectly clear to me that your intentions are good, we just need to go through these formalities to get you back on board editing under a new name ASAP. That means you have to follow the instructions in the block discussion below and add a new comment at the bottom of it, with:
{{Unblock-spamun|1=My spiffy new name|2=I should be unblocked because ...}}and add your reasoning. If there is something about the unblock procedure you don’t understand, you can ask the admins (or me) about it here on this page. Note: your Talk page shouldn’t really be used for any other purpose right now other than dealing with your block (but this conversation qualifies, as it is about dealing with your block). - One last thing: normally, newly registered accounts are randomly assigned a mentor, and assuming all goes well, you will show up under a new name, and will be assigned some other mentor. However, if you prefer that I remain as your mentor under the new name, that is possible, but you need to let me know if you want that, *after* your new name is approved and you are up and running there. You can notify me on my Talk page if you wish, at that time. (But since mentorship is not directly about dealing with your block, please do not ask me questions about this just now; wait till you are unblocked. All clear, I hope! Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, website, or role, which is against the username policy.
If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
- Provide a new username.
To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text “Your proposed new username” with your new username and replace the text “Your reason here” with your reasons to be unblocked. If you are having trouble, you may want to try using the unblock wizard.
Before requesting a new username, check if it is still available. If the search says “There is no global account for [username]”, the username is free to use.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text “Your reason here” with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the edit. Mfield (Oi!) 06:28, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying steps to correct. My edits were to the year of founding of the Wausau Curling Club, I am a curling historian. As well as the proper website for the wausau curling club. The edits were NOT promotion or advertising. I have submitted a request for a username change via a form my mentor sent me. I receive no compensation. I intend to make additions and/or corrections to curling history articles. Wausaucurling (talk) 16:02, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
