Abhishek Singh “Ashu”

Abhishek Singh “Ashu” (born 2 October 1979) is an Indian politician and lawyer associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)[1]. He hails from Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh.

Early Life and Education

Abhishek Singh “Ashu” was born in the village of Jiyapur, Kharoara post, Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh. His father worked as a school teacher. Ashu pursued higher education in law, studying at U.P. College, Varanasi, and later at institutions in Prayagraj and Lucknow University[2][3].

Political Journey

In 2003, Abhishek Singh “Ashu”[4], representing the Samajwadi Party Chattra Sabha, was elected as President[5] of the Lucknow University Students’ Union. He defeated his closest rival, Vijay Kumar Singh of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), by a margin of 741 votes. Ashu secured a total of 1,718 votes, setting a record by winning the presidential post on his first attempt[6].

In 2016, Samajwadi Party state president Shivpal Singh Yadav appointed Abhishek Singh “Ashu”[7][8][9][10], a former president of Lucknow University Student’s Union as state president of the Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha. Abhishek has replaced[11] Brajesh Yadav who was a close supporter of Akhilesh Singh Yadav. In 2017 Akhilesh Singh Yadav removed Shivpal Singh Yadav from the post of state SP president, and replaced the heads of the frontal organizations appointed earlier by Shivpal Singh Yadav including Ashu[12].

In 2017, following Shivpal Yadav’s separation from the Samajwadi Party, Ashu also ended his association with the party and joined[13] Shivpal’s newly formed political outfit, the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia)[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. In 2018, Shivpal Yadav further consolidated his political organization, and Singh continued to be an active member of the party.

In 2022, Abhishek Singh “Ashu” was formally inducted into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party headquarters by Swatantra Dev Singh. [22]
