Quokka (formerly Kryptowire) is a United States-based mobile security company that publishes mobile app risk intelligence software.
The company was founded in 2011 by Angelos Stavrou, then a professor at George Mason University, with grants from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop mobile application security analysis tools. In 2015, the security analysis tool was commercialized and launched as Q-mast, a mobile application security testing (MAST) solution.
In 2022, the company announced a growth investment from USVP and Crosslink Capital.[1] The company was also rebranded from Kryptowire to Quokka (pronounced kwaa-kuh) and launched Q-scout, a mobile app vetting solution, the same year.
In 2025, the Safe App Portal, a pilot program from the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and powered by Quokka, was launched.[2] Partnerships with Microsoft, Brightfin, and Hexnode were also launched in 2025.
In November 2025, Quokka’s research team reported on security vulnerabilities in Uhale-branded digital picture frames.[3]
