Kabir Shahani is an American technology entrepreneur and investor known for founding and leading data‑driven enterprise software companies that focus on customer intelligence and marketing technology. He co‑founded Amperity, a customer data platform that achieved unicorn status, and earlier co‑founded Appature, a marketing automation company later acquired by IMS Health. Shahani has also supported early‑stage technology ventures and served in academic roles.
Early life and education
[edit]
Kabir Shahani was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. He later attended the University of Washington, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Informatics in 2004.[3] He also completed the Advanced Management Executive Program at Northwestern University in 2011.[4]
After graduating from college, Shahani began his career working in technology consulting. He also joined Blue Dot, a consumer startup, where he gained early experience in product and business development.[5]
In 2007, Shahani co‑founded Appature[6], a cloud‑based marketing automation platform[7] that served enterprise clients, especially in the healthcare sector. The company grew rapidly under his leadership and was acquired by IMS Health in 2013[8].
Appature and Shahani received recognition for their influence in the life‑sciences and marketing technology industries.
In 2016, Shahani co‑founded Amperity with Derek Slager[9] to build a customer data platform (CDP) that unifies and resolves fragmented customer data for enterprise brands. Amperity raised early funding, including a $9 million Series A led by Madrona Venture Group[10].
Under Shahani’s leadership, Amperity grew rapidly, helping major brands with customer insights and data unification. In 2021 the company reached a valuation exceeding $1 billion, achieving unicorn status.[11]
[12]
[13]
Shahani stepped down as CEO and left the board in 2022[14] to pursue new ventures.
Ventures and investing
[edit]
Following his tenure at Amperity, Shahani founded and became Chairman of Amp It Up Ventures[15][16], a venture and incubation initiative that supports high‑growth software businesses. He is also co‑founder of Adora, an AI‑driven marketing technology startup.
In addition to building companies, Shahani has participated in early‑stage investing, mentoring, and advisory roles.
Shahani has served as an affiliate assistant professor at the University of Washington Information School, where he teaches and advises on product design, database systems, information architecture, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
