Outline of proposed changes

[edit]

  • So far, the article gives a clear summary of Pan-Arabism (I’ll elaborate more below)… article explains where the movement came from, its main leaders (Gamal Abdel Nasser), historical events (like the Arab Revolt) and how the movement declined. The article is easy to follow and its divided well (“Origins”, “Attempts at Arab Union”, and “Decline”) and included reliable references (like Britannica) and pictures.
  • Improvements needed:
    • Egypt changed its name to the Arab Republic of Egypt in 1971 (not 1973… like stated in the article)
    • I can’t find anything about Zaki al-Arsuzi being influenced by Nazi ideology and there was no source was cited there
    • All the information in the article is outdated (the newest citation is dated 1990’s). Newer research should be included on Pan-Arabism.
    • The reference says “Google Books” should be cited properly… not just a link to the book.
    • “Different Arab leaders competed to become the leading voices for the Arab and Islamic worlds. Such competition sporadically resulted in friction between the leaders of these Arab countries.” sounds opinion-based and is broad.. should be more neutral and rewritten with actual evidence/source.

Content gaps:

  • Sati’ al-Hursi should be showcased more because he played a big role in shaping Arab nationalism
  • Same with the Sues Crises… there should be at least a sentence about how this increased Nasser’s popularity
  • How did the 2011 Arab Spring affect Pan-Arabism?
