The 2026 Women’s African Volleyball Championship, commonly referred to as Afro Women 2026, was reverted the name from Women’s AfroVolley Championship to Women’s Afro Volley Cup in 2026, this will be the 25th edition of the biannual continental tournament for women’s national volleyball teams, organised by African’s governing volleyball body, AFVB. The tournament will be held between from 21 August to 6 September 2026. It will be organised in Algeria and Morocco, marking the first time Afro Volley will be held in two countries.

For the first in history teams will expand from 16 teams in last edition into 24 teams will participate. Qualification took place in May 12, 2025 to May 31, 2026 to decide the final 22 spots. The two co-hosts qualified automatically. Central African Republic will make their debut, while Cape Verde and Ivory Coast return after long absences.

After VBIC‘s calendar changes starting 2025, this will be the first Afro Cup to be held in an even-numbered year.

The winner qualifies for the Volleyball tournament at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The top three finishers will also qualify for the 2027 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and United States.

Kenya are the defending champions, having beaten Egypt 3–0 in the final in Cairo, Egypt.

Year change

On 22 June 2023, the Volleyball Internationale Confederation (VBIC) announced that, starting in 2026, all continental competitions would be played in even-numbered years, rather than odd-numbered.

Host Selection

The host selection bidding process for the Afro Women’s Volley Cup 2026 was conducted in Rabat, Morocco, where representatives from prospective host nations presented their proposals before the tournament organizers.

The Afro Volley 2026 Women’s Cup is an international women’s volleyball tournament for national teams in Africa. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Algeria and Morocco, marking a significant multi-host edition for the competition.

Algeria will host the tournament across four venues in two cities, returning as a host nation for the first time since 2009. Matches will take place at the Hacène Harcha Arena in Algiers and the Hamou Boutlélis Sports Palace in Oran.

On 27 February 2025, Morocco was announced as the main host of the Afro Cup. Games under Morocco’s hosting duties will be played at the Salle Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, with the final matches scheduled to be contested at the Tangier Grand Stadium in Tangier.

Overview

The Hacène Harcha Arena in Algiers is one of Algeria’s most prominent indoor sports venues. It will host matches of the Afro Volley 2026 Women’s Cup, contributing to Algeria’s second time hosting the tournament since 2009.

Located in Oran, the Hamou Boutlélis Sports Palace is a multi-purpose indoor arena with a history of hosting national and international sporting events. The venue will serve as one of the Algerian sites for Afro Volley 2026 matches.

The Salle Moulay Abdellah in Rabat is a major indoor arena within the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex. Following Morocco’s appointment as main host on 27 February 2025, the venue will stage several matches of the Cup.

The Tangier Grand Stadium in Tangier is Morocco’s largest stadium and will host the final matches of the Afro Volley 2026 Women’s Cup, providing a large-capacity venue for the tournament’s conclusion.

Qualification

24 teams qualify for the Cup. The two co-hosts automatically progress. The top two teams from Zonal Championship will qualify for the Afro Volley Cup.

24 teams took part in qualification, with 12 spots on the line. The 24 teams were divided into eight groups of three, with the eight group winners plus the four best second place teams qualifying. The games were played in October 2025 and May 2026. The groups were seeded by the Serpentine system based off each teams’ ranking for team 1 and draw lots to fill the team 2 and 3.

Of the non-qualifiers, Gambia and Seychelles both missed out in 2025 Women’s Western Afro Volley Cup and Pool B, with the two taking part in the three previous editions.

The final draw took place at 21:30 Moroccan time in Rabat, Morocco on 26 January 2026 at the
Grand Theatre of Rabat. Imane Boujemaa – Outside hitter, Yasmine Guettouche – Outside hitter,
Algeria women’s national team, Pamela Adhiambo – Libero, key defensive player for Kenya,
Marguerite Moulom – Middle blocker, former national team captain, were the hosts of the final draw.
The final draw began with the co-hosts and selected teams being placed into their respective groups,
followed by the allocation of teams from pots in order,
with each team assigned to the first available pool alphabetically.

The teams are seeded according to the VBIC National Team rankings before the draw.
