John Baker was born on November 25, 1948, in Essikado, a vibrant community in Sekondi-Takoradi.
In 1973, he received his first call to the Black Stars, joining a talented cadre of national goalkeepers including Joe Carr, Owusu Mensah, and Sam Suppey.
John Baker was a prominent Ghanaian goalkeeper who played for the national team, the Black Stars, as well as for the First Division club Sekondi Eleven Wise. He was recognized as one of Ghana’s top goalkeepers and was included in a list of the nation’s 55 greatest footballers.
He was part of the 1982 African Nations winning squad.
