M D Ray (born 01 February 1971) is an Indian Author and Surgical oncologist who designed 5 Onco surgical techniques adopted internationally.
And patented 5 surgical oncology instruments. Author of 36 books.
Life and career
Ray was born in West Bengal, India. He holds an MBBS from the Medical college, in Kolkata, West Bengal and a master’s degree in surgery (MS) from
the Army Hospital (R n R) Delhi University. He did Senior research fellowship under ICMR, New Delhi. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS from Glasgow, UK, and he is PhD in Clinico Molecular Oncology, AIIMS, New Delhi.
He is also a fellow of American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is working as Professor, Surgical Oncology, AIIMS, New Delhi.
Ray served in the Indian Army for more than a decade. He led a medical team as Officer Commanding in Operation Vijay, Kargil War, 1999. He served at the army hospital as a senior research fellow in Oncosurgery under the Indian council of medical research (ICMR). He also served in Army College of Medical Sciences, and Base Hospital, Delhi.
Ray is a cancer surgeon for so called ‘incurable metastatic cancers called Peritoneal Surface Malignancies and intra-abdominal chemotherapy named HIPEC, PIPAC and Robotic Onco Surgery. He is an international speaker in
the field of cancer surgery. He is an active researcher in molecular oncology. He is also a teacher and examiner of cancer surgery super speciality students. He performed more than 15000 complex onco surgeries and obtained the title as ‘Master of Masters’ in complex cancer surgeries.
Ray is an active member of notable national and international cancer research projects. He is a fellow of International College of Surgeons (FICS) and Association of Surgeons of India (FAIS).
Presently working as Professor, Surgical Oncology at AIIMS, New Delhi. The institution patented five of his valuable instruments for major abdominal surgeries.
Ray has been running an NGO named Universal Unity Trust for prevention of cancer. As a social activist, he is actively involved in cancer awareness programme across the country to prevent India being Cancer Capital in 2040, through various GOVT Projects and Universal Unity Trust. He has been featured in Indian and Limca Book of Records
He is a graded artist in Tabla, All India Radio and represented India to Peru on the occasion of Republic Day celebration, 2024 through ICCR, Govt of India and a regular broadcaster for cancer awareness from Akashvani All India Radio [16].
He represented the country to Germany for Indo German collaborative research for robotic & AI in onco surgery, led by Honorable Director AIIMS, Delhi.
Honorable Director AIIMS Delhi Recommended him for Padma Awards, not only as a par excellence professional cancer surgeon and researcher, but also as a social activist, artist and author in the field of Medicine as well as Social Service.
Ray has authored 14 Professional Medical books and >175 scientific papers published in national and international journals. He is the author of Multidisciplinary Approach to Surgical Oncology patients, Gateway to Operative Surgery Gateway to Success in Surgery and A text book of Operative onco surgery. He published 14 international books on clinical surgery and surgical oncology, and 22 books on literature, mostly in Bengali Novels and short stories.
