Song by Kanye West
“Virgil Let Me Down“, also known by the shortened name “Virgil“, is an unreleased song by American rapper Kanye West from his upcoming thirteenth studio album, In a Perfect World. Written by American rapper Dave Blunts, its lyrics revolve around West’s relationship with late fashion designer Virgil Abloh, who he believes betrayed him while Abloh was still alive.
West debuted “Virgil Let Me Down” on a May 6 livestream with American streamer Sneako.[1][2] The song itself would later leak on May 18, following the entirety of In a Perfect World (then titled Cuck) being leaked online after it was bought through a crowdfunding campaign on Discord, with the individuals responsible suggesting it was in response to West’s antisemitic views.[3]
Like all songs from In a Perfect World, “Virgil Let Me Down” was written by American rapper Dave Blunts, who West began working with West in February 2025.[4][5] Its lyrics show general disappointment towards Abloh, with West crooning the repetitive refrain of “Virgil let me down.”[1][6] He questions why Abloh would ever betray him, as he did “everything I could to put [him] on” and treated Abloh as his “protégé“.[6] Similarly, West asserts that he’s the reason Abloh became the artistic director of men’s wear at Louis Vuitton, alleging that the brand only hired Abloh “to fuck with me.”[7]
