Do not want to “be bold” on such an important page (not even sure that should apply to this page anyway – nicely built with probably many meetings to discuss), so will just ask if it might be of value to add a link to the fun material of The First Day, at wikipedia25.org? Perhaps another clickable blue box, like the “Learn more”, “Learn to edit”. If not, no problem, just thinking out loud. Jmg38 (talk) 08:31, 16 January 2026 (UTC)

Where is the iconic puzzle globe and why did they remove it? ~2026-51002-1 (talk) 03:29, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
Hello 🙂 Thank you for creating this space to talk all things 25th birthday! I’m Corli, part of the Brand Studio team working on Wikipedia’s 25th birthday at the Foundation. Dropping this note to share a range of things we’re working on, in case you’re interested in discussing any of them for enwiki (recognizing that some would be easier to implement using existing on-wiki decision making processes than others):
- The celebration toolkit you already found will continue to expand to include more designs and tools. The animation puzzle tool is fun to play with: you can create your own puzzle graphic by uploading an image (or gif!) from Commons. We’re hosting Office Hours next week and in the new year if you have any questions about the system or how to apply it.
- We’re planning an hour-long virtual birthday party on January 15th that’ll have entertainment, games, guest appearances. More to come on that, including registration, but everyone is invited and enwiki is of course welcome to spread the word on this landing page or anywhere else.
- We’re building an opt-in campaign feature with a cute birthday mascot and surprise “easter eggs” for readers of Wikipedia to discover. These fun “easter eggs” will be on the Wikipedia portal page, and any interested Wikipedias. We’re working with feedback to develop a community configuration gadget. We’d love input from enwiki and make customizations if it’s something you all want to consider – check out the Meta-Wiki page to learn more and weigh in.
- There will be some special edition merch coming to the Wikipedia Store. We can offer some of these items for prizes if your birthday plans involve ideas like a small-scale raffle amongst editors or anything like that.
- If you would like to engage the media, we have created a media relations and press resource on Meta-Wiki. This toolkit is intended to enable you to secure media coverage in your countries. We have also included a media training to equip you for interviews!
You’ve probably seen birthday messaging for fundraising season (banner collaboration happening here). So, by the time we get to the birthday, there should be a number of audiences that know it’s coming and are ready to celebrate Wikipedia and the people behind it. If there are any other ways in which we might be able to support your celebration plans, please let me know and I can link you up with the right team. CDekock-WMF (talk) 12:12, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

I don’t want to cause drama or get in trouble, so I’ll keep this short. Wikipedia did me more harm than good. I volunteered many hundreds of hours at a time when I did not have a clear direction in my life. A few contributors thanked me with “Barnstars” and other kind words. Many, however, went out of their way to make personal attacks.
I have yet to receive an honest thank-you from anyone who really matters here. A couple of years ago, I asked someone on the Wikipedia Volunteer Ticket Response team by email, if I could receive a letter from someone at the Foundation acknowledging and thanking me for my hundreds of articles I wrote and other significant contributions (mostly made in 2007 and 2008). The request was flatly denied. I’d still be interested in actually receiving that kind of acknowledgment form the people who have become rich off my uncompensated work product (given voluntarily, but the bottom line is I should have known better). If you would like to thank me or, for that matter, attack me, my talk page is open.
Sometimes it matters whether you thank your volunteers or just take them for granted. That’s why I’m not celebrating on Wikipedia’s 25th birthday. Chutznik (talk) 19:33, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

- From what I understand, you were thanked through barnstars and “many kind words”. Why do those kind words matter less than a thank-you from “anyone who really matters here”? toby (t)(c)(rw) 19:48, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

- I did not say “many” kind words (read again what I wrote above). Yes, there were some. That doesn’t make up for the derogatory statements, some of which were false. Quite honestly, there is a hierarchy in this online community, and it would have meant more to be thanked for my efforts by anyone in the Foundation than simply to receive a Barnstar from a random teenager. Put it this way: there was a time that I felt I could put my contributions to Wikipedia on my resume, and I did so. Not anymore, and not just because time has passed and I endured a decade-long ban in the interim. The more fundamental reason is that no one appreciates the effort I put in. I just wasted all that time.
- And to the person who posted that link, yes I know I am raining on someone’s parade. I’m doing it anyway. It may not be a nice thing to do, but I’ve given up on ever earning the true respect of anyone here. Just a thank-you for past effort will suffice. Chutznik (talk) 20:01, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
- I find this mentality sad, to be honest. This was a volunteer project since the beginning which you willingly chose to “waste” your time on without reparation. I do not know what you expect to gain other than a pitiful and meaningless “thank you” just because you asked for it. Maybe I could thank you, but I guess my words are worthless to you considering I’m just a random teenager. toby (t)(c)(rw) 20:10, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

this is linked from the main page, yet this page only has 2000 views. sad. ~2026-32945-9 (talk) 22:19, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
- From what I understand, it got ~2000 views in thirty days before January 15 (UTC). According to pageview statistics, this page received over 18k visits on January 15. ObserveOwl (talk) 02:52, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
